Ron Israeli, M.D., a founding partner in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, PC, is a plastic surgeon practicing in Long Island, New York since 1997. Dr. Israeli is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and specializes in post-mastectomy breast reconstruction as well as cosmetic surgery of the breast and body.
Dr. Israeli, a recognized expert with extensive experience in breast reconstruction, provides an individualized approach for every patient. He offers microsurgical procedures such as DIEP, SIEA, muscle-sparing free TRAM and TUG free flap breast reconstruction as well as latissimus flap and all implant-based options including the direct-to-implant or one-step approach. Dr. Israeli has been named by U.S. News & World Report among the top plastic surgeons in the nation, and since 2007, he has been on Castle Connolly’s Top Doctor Listing for the New York Metro Area. Dr. Israeli is also the first plastic surgeon selected for the advisory board of the Adelphi University New York State Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program, a group dedicated to addressing the psychosocial issues associated with breast cancer. For his dedication and leadership in the field of post-mastectomy breast reconstruction, Dr. Israeli was honored by the American Cancer Society with their 2007 Physician of Distinction Award.
Dr. Israeli is a co-founder of BreastReconstruction.org, a comprehensive web resource for women facing mastectomy. He has lectured on the subjects of breast reconstruction and abdominal wall reconstruction at national and regional conferences and has written multiple articles published in peer-reviewed journals. He has also written textbook and atlas chapters on breast and abdominal wall reconstruction. Techniques that he has pioneered include secondary procedures designed to maximize the quality of breast reconstruction outcomes, a reliable repair of abdominal bulges related to TRAM flap breast reconstruction and a minimally invasive approach to the repair of complex abdominal wall hernias. Dr. Israeli is among a small handful of practitioners nationwide that have served as clinical investigators for the LifeCell Corporation pioneering the use of AlloDerm® in implant breast reconstruction, and he also took part in the national Adjunct Study that resulted in the 2006 FDA approval of cohesive silicone gel breast implants.
Dr. Israeli continues to study classical European sculpture techniques, applying his skills and talent as an artist in his work as a plastic surgeon. As an ongoing sculpture project, he has been creating life cast sculptures of some of his mastectomy and breast reconstruction patients. In 2011, the positive psychological impact of this life cast project on a group of his patients was featured in a short documentary film.
Dr. Israeli completed his plastic surgery residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital-Harvard Medical School, and his surgery residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. He is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Boston University’s six-year combined liberal arts-medical education program. Dr. Israeli is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has been appointed Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Hofstra School of Medicine. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
Dr. Israeli practices and teaches at a number of the leading medical centers on Long Island, including North Shore University Hospitals at Manhasset, Huntington, and Syosset as well as Long Island Jewish Medical Center and St. Francis Hospital. He performs cosmetic surgery of the breast and body in our office AAAASF-certified operating suite.
