David M. Light, MD is a plastic surgeon dedicated to delivering compassionate and personalized care. Dr. Light has specialty training in microsurgery, with specific interests in microsurgical breast reconstruction and the surgical treatment of lymphedema. He offers the full array of breast reconstruction options to his patients with expertise in microsurgical flaps such as the DIEP, SIEA, TUG, and GAP flaps, as well as the latest implant based reconstructions using acellular dermal matrix, form stable silicone gel implants and direct-to-implant procedures. Dr. Light is also one of a few surgeons nationally that performs vascularized lymph node transfers to treat lymphedema of the arms and legs.
Dr. Light performs aesthetic surgery of the face, breasts and body, utilizing minimally invasive techniques to aid in your healing and return to daily activities. These procedures include endoscopic brow lifts, transconjunctival blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, fat grafting, SMAS and MACS techniques for short scar facelifts, breast augmentation, body contouring after massive weight loss, as well as the full range of injectable fillers and BOTOX® Cosmetics.
A native New Yorker, Dr. Light received his medical degree from Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York and graduated at the top of his class. He began his surgical training at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York where he completed a general surgery residency and was presented the Chairman’s Award for exceptional leadership and academic achievement. Dr. Light continued his training at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic for his plastic surgery residency. While at the Cleveland Clinic, he participated in the care of face and abdominal wall transplant patients and his research in abdominal wall transplantation helped establish their current protocol. Dr. Light also completed a microsurgery fellowship at the nation’s premier microsurgical training program, the University of Pennsylvania, known as a pioneer in lymphedema surgery and internationally for its contributions to microsurgical breast reconstruction.
Dr. Light has authored multiple peer reviewed articles in plastic surgery’s most prestigious scientific journal. He has also presented his work across the country at national meetings and was recognized with a best presentation award by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Light is a candidate member of a number of professional societies including the American Society of Plastic Surgery, American College of Surgeons, and the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery.
Dr. Light has privileges at a number of the leading hospitals in the region including North Shore University Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Huntington Hospital, Syosset Hospital, and Winthrop University Hospital. He also performs aesthetic procedures in our AAAASF-certified state-of-the-art office surgical suite.
