Rejuvenate Your Appearance
Eye Lift - Long Island, New York
The combination of aging skin, gravity and facial expression can cause noticeable descent and wrinkling of the brow/forehead, as well as frown lines, large bags beneath the eyes, and droopy or hooded upper eyelids. If you are concerned about your skin's appearance and want to tighten the soft tissue around your eyes, brow and forehead, you may be a candidate for eyelid surgery (eye lift, blepharoplasty) or brow lift (forehead lift) surgery. At our New York plastic surgery center, located in Great Neck, Long Island, our team of board-certified plastic surgeons has extensive experience performing eye, brow and forehead surgeries.
Safe and effective, blepharoplasty and brow lifts can revitalize your appearance and help you look years, if not decades, younger. Our plastic surgeons have the aesthetic training and skill needed to craft beautiful, natural-looking results that allow you to realize your cosmetic goals. If you would like to reverse the aging process or eliminate bagginess or droopiness around the eyes, we encourage you to consider eyelid surgery or brow lift surgery. Eyelid Surgery - Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is performed to improve the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Excess fat deposits, loose skin, wrinkles, saggy or droopy skin, and bags under the eyes can all be treated with eyelid surgery at our New York plastic surgery center. If your skin sags so severely that it impairs your vision, this procedure can improve both your sight and appearance. However, the aesthetic benefits of the treatment are such that even individuals with minor bags or skin laxity may find that it is right for them. If you are in good health, have realistic expectations for your results and recovery, are free of serious eye conditions such as chronic dry eye, glaucoma, and have a positive mindset, you may be a suitable candidate for blepharoplasty.
Before you decide to undergo eyelid surgery, we first must discuss your goals and expectations with you in detail during an initial consultation. This will allow us to suggest an appropriate treatment plan and determine whether you are a good candidate for the procedure. If there is any question of existing dry eye, then an ophthalmologist can perform a Schirmer's test to assess your tearing function to help choose a safe approach.
Surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia. Incisions are then made below or above the eye, depending on which eyelid is being treated, so that we can access the skin, muscle and fatty tissue. The incisions are made within the natural creases of the eyelids so that any resulting scarring will be inconspicuous. After the incisions have been made, excess fat deposits and skin will be removed, and the lower lid may be elevated a bit if is droopy before surgery. Finally, the incisions will be closed with sutures removed on the fifth or sixth day after surgery.
To promote recovery and help control bruising and swelling, cold compresses and dressings will be placed over the eyes once surgery is complete. To help manage any resulting discomfort or pain, medications will be prescribed though cold compresses usually suffice. Topical eye ointment for bedtime and saline drops during the day will be needed for several days or a few weeks to weeks to maintain proper lubrication after surgery. Contact lenses cannot be worn for a few weeks or they will increase dryness after surgery.
