I am feeling energized today.
Spring starting, despite the fresh snow, probably has something to do with it. But the real source of this jolt comes from being part of a very special program near and dear to me and my partners at Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, PC. Dr. Feingold and I had the privilege of attending last night’s Creative Cups™ 2015 benefit for the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program, and we were amazed by the level of creativity, excitement and caring on display.
As a member of the program’s Advisory Board, I’ve participated in these events in the past, but this year’s Creative Cups rocketed to new heights. With such a great gathering of artists, breast cancer survivors, families affected by breast cancer, social workers and health care professionals, the energy and excitement was palpable. A total of 178 artistic bra creations were auctioned off for what is likely to be a record-breaking fundraising event for the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program.
You can see some of the amazing creations that were auctioned off on the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program Facebook page. But I wanted to point out a couple unique pieces that caught my eye and exemplify the wide range of meaning these artistic creations represent.
The “Bra-alicious" piece designed by a local artist known as Spoonman brought a new appreciation to silverware with his wearable, spoon-themed bra. Like all art, the beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but what makes this piece and the Creative Cups event so special is the backstory to the art. The artist’s wife is a breast cancer survivor of eight years, and he made the piece to help bring awareness to breast cancer research.
The other was the “Betty’s-Boobs-for-a-Cure” piece. This throwback work of art featured the iconic Betty Boop to honor the artist’s mother who lost her battle to breast cancer and her great-grandfather who created the celebrated cartoon character. The artist believes everyone has a bit of Boop in them and can stand strong and fight the villainous cancer.
On behalf of Drs. Feingold, Light, and Korn, I would like to thank the team at Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program for all the work they do to support the men and women of New York diagnosed with breast cancer. Together we will continue to empower breast cancer patients.
